The British Handball Association has appointed Paul Dempsey as Head Coach of the GB Women’s team until 2022.

Paul Dempsey played 53 times for Great Britain in the 1980’s, participating in four ‘C’ World Championships and was the first British player to gain a professional contract in the top leagues in Iceland and Denmark. He holds handball coaching qualifications from the UK and Denmark. He currently coaches West London Eagles women’s team, the club where he played and coached for many years in between spells abroad.

He will be tasked with building the team for future competitions and identifying target events. At present there is no IHF Emerging Championship for women, but British Handball continues to lobby for the creation of this event starting in 2020.

Paul Bray, British Handball Chairman, commented: “Paul brings great experience and enthusiasm to this role and has very clear ideas about what he wants to achieve with the team. We look forward to working with him”.
