British Handball is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Collins to its Board of Directors as an Independent Director with a specific remit for Performance.
Richard brings a wealth of high-performance sport experience to the role. He currently leads World Class Services at the Sport Wales Institute, where he focuses on the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of sports science and sports medicine services to World Class Programme (WCP) athletes based in Wales.
Prior to his current role, Richard held several senior positions within the UK Sport Institute (formerly EIS). His impressive track record includes serving as the Head of Performance Support for Archery GB, Performance Support Lead for British Wheelchair Fencing, and as a Senior Psychologist working directly within Olympic and Paralympic programmes.
Richard has consistently demonstrated a strong ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, turning high-level strategy into practical, athlete-centred support that drives performance outcomes.
Welcoming the appointment, Stephen Neilson, British Handball Chair said:
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Richard to the Board. His extensive background in the performance sporting ecosystem and his deep understanding of what it takes to support athletes at the highest level will be invaluable as we continue to grow and develop our performance pathways."
