British Handball Seeking Volunteer Treasurer to Support Strategic Growth

Post published June 8, 2026

The British Handball Association (BHA) is dedicated to supporting, developing, and promoting the sport of handball across the United Kingdom. As we continue to grow and strengthen our activities, we are seeking a passionate and experienced professional to join us as a Volunteer Treasurer.

This is an exceptional volunteer leadership role suited for an individual looking to gain experience working with a Board, step into sports management, or make a meaningful contribution to the continued development of handball in the UK.

About the Role

Working closely with the Chair, Directors, and operational staff, the Treasurer provides robust financial information and guidance to support the Association’s programmes, competitions, events, development initiatives, and long-term strategic objectives.

The Treasurer plays an important role in ensuring the Association maintains transparent financial practices and appropriate financial controls, while contributing to wider organisational planning and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Oversight: Provide financial oversight and strategic guidance to the Association.
  • Financial Monitoring: Track income generation, expenditure, memberships, sponsorship, grants, and funding activity.
  • Reporting & Planning: Prepare financial reports for meetings and support budgeting for competitions, events, camps, and development programmes.
  • Annual Accounts: Assist with annual accounts preparation and financial reporting requirements.

What You’ll Gain

  • Experience in sports governance and non-profit financial leadership.
  • The opportunity to help shape the future growth and development of handball in the UK.
  • Flexible volunteering that can fit around professional and personal commitments.
  • A collaborative, supportive, and impactful environment within the sporting community.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who can contribute financial knowledge alongside strategic oversight and leadership. You do not need to have prior experience with handball—we welcome applicants from a wide range of professional backgrounds who are committed to good governance.

Ideally, you will have experience in accounting, budgeting, and financial management, combined with the confidence to review financial information and help guide responsible organisational growth. An understanding of how National Governing Bodies operate is preferred but not required.

How to Apply

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who share a passion for sport, development, inclusion, and community participation.

To apply, please send a short introduction outlining your experience and interest in the role to BHA Chair Stephen Neilson at stephen.neilson@britishhandball.com.

Closing Date for Applications: 20 June 2026.
