British Handball announces Chair of the Board

We are delighted to announce that Stephen Neilson has been appointed as the Chair of the BHA. He brings a wealth of experience in handball and business to the role, and has been involved in Handball since 1981.

He was previously chair of the BHA from 2004-2008 helping to pave the journey towards the a home Olympics. He was also chair of the Scottish Handball Association from 1999 to 2013, before taking on the role of COO of the SHA for 10 years, leaving in 2022.

Prior to these roles he has been a player and a coach. He played and coached at Tryst 77, Edinburgh, Ayr, Troon and East Kilbride 82. He was also coach of the Scotland Men’s and Women’s teams in the 90’s and the GB Men’s Assistant coach from 1997 to 2001.

Stephen has worked in the IT industry since 1987 including working for Microsoft.

Board Director for Performance, Conor Marlin says "We are delighted to welcome Stevie back to the board of the BHA. He relatively recently had been our Scottish representative through his role of COO of the SHA. He brings a wealth of experience both domestically and internationally from grassroots to performance. We have a chair with real handball pedigree! We have no doubt he will continue to drive us forward towards further success, building on the big strides that have been made in recent years."

Senior GB Women's Head Coach Mark Hawkins says, "Stevie has been established in British Handball for a number of years, is incredibly passionate about the sport, and brings a great deal of experiences whihc will benefit us all."
