The British Handball Association has appointed Lucy McClements as Director (Finance & Corporate Governance) on its Board.

Lucy is a qualified accountant with almost 20 years of experience in financial services regulation, having started her career at the Bank of England. She has advised a number of Boards, including FTSE 100 companies such as Lloyds of London, ICAP, and 3i Group. She is a former Head of Department at the Financial Conduct Authority and Financial Services Authority. She currently advises corporations on enhancing Board effectiveness, risk management and regulatory effectiveness.

Lucy is a former Ulster and Ireland hockey international and is no stranger to handball having been a volunteer remedial massage therapist for the GB Handball team prior to, and during, the 2012 Olympics.

This appointment completes the line-up of the new British Handball Board, following the recent appointment of two other new independent directors, Allan Robson and Jason Lee.

Commenting on Lucy’s appointment BHA Chairman Paul Bray said “It is great news to have Lucy join our Board. She brings extensive financial and governance experience to our team, which is absolutely vital. While we are unfunded by UK Sport, it remains hugely important to ensure that we continue to run the association professionally and Lucy will help review our governance processes and ensure that we always operate as effectively as we can”.
