The British Handball Association (BHA) is seeking a new Non-Executive Independent Director with responsibility for Performance after incumbent Anna Garside announced she will step down once her successor has been found.

The BHA is now seeking a new Non-Executive Independent Director with responsibility for Performance.

I
n addition to her work with the BHA, Garside took up a new position as Science and Medicine Manager for Premiership Rugby last March and has seen her role expand with opportunities to further develop her career.

BHA Independent Directors can serve two four-year terms of office but with the increasing daily workload of running the BHA, combined with her increased personal and professional workload and commitments, Anna has decided to step down from her voluntary role with the BHA.

With her departure, Garside leaves a huge legacy from her three years (2019-2022) on the Board, notably playing a key role in its successful efforts to secure UK Sport ‘National Squads Support Funding'. She was also a very active Chair of the BHA Performance Group, where she earned the respect of all the GB national team staff.

Paul Bray, BHA Chair said:
“Anna has done an absolutely incredible job at British Handball and we are hugely sad to see her go. She was key to our successful UK Sport funding bid and has been an incredibly proactive Board Member, putting in place many positive and successful initiatives.

“We will miss her but understand that her work commitments must come first and want to congratulate her on her new career development opportunity within Premiership Rugby.”

Anna Garside, BHA Independent Director (Performance) said:
“It has been a very difficult decision to make as it has been a privilege to work with everyone at British Handball. I have continually been impressed by the commitment and expertise within the sport, which means it is only right for me to allow someone who can commit the same amount of time to British Handball.

“Securing UK Sport funding was such a critical achievement, meaning now is a really exciting time, with the addition of the Performance Coordinator, for someone to join and truly propel the national teams forward.

“I want to thank everyone for their support over the last few years and I look forward to following the teams' journeys over the years to come."

Everyone associated with British Handball would like to wish Anna the very best of luck with her role at Premiership Rugby and looks forward to seeing her again in the future.

The BHA is now welcoming applications for the role of Non-Executive Independent Director with responsibility for Performance until 28 February 2022, with Garside continuing in her role during the recruitment and handover process for her successor.

Applications should be sent to office@britishhandball.com.
