The GB Under-18 Men’s team returned last week from their training camp in Denmark with a win and two defeats, and plenty of good learnings.
The GB Under-18 men have a busy summer, with two overseas training camps ahead of the EHF M18 Championship from 8-14 August in Romania.
Last week they were in Ikast, Denmark, with training sessions and a match every day. In their opening match against a strong Midtjylland side, GB went down 30-24, but there were plenty of
positive points to build on. The teams met again the following day and GB lost 37-29. GB showed much greater concentration and focus in their final match against Ry Håndbold and ran out 27-19 winners.
The team has two further training camps in the UK and a trip to Portugal in mid-July, before they travel to Romania for the EHF M18 Championship.
British Handball were grateful to hosts ISI Ikast, who looked after the GB team during their stay. ISI has had a partnership with England Handball since 2020, providing development opportunities for their Diploma in Sporting Excellence graduates. Currently 15 GB age group players are based at the ISI Academy.
GB Under-18 Men’s Head Coach John Pearce said “I am very pleased with outcome of this trip. It was our first opportunity to travel aboard with this cohort, and they improved with every match. We still
have some quality time with the squad before the European Championship and we are looking forward to the tournament in Portugal”.
