Departure of Senior GB Women's Head Coach - Paul Dempsey

Post published January 5, 2023

The British Handball Association confirms that Paul Dempsey, the senior women's Great Britain has stepped down from his role effective immediately.

Paul became head coach when the GB senior women’s team was re-formed in late 2018. However, due to Covid and the financial situation, Paul has faced a number of challenges leading to no international competitions and just a handful of friendly tournaments.

Whilst, British Handball managed to secure some funding from UK Sport for the national senior teams, the alternating international competition format meant the women had a long wait for their first official competition. In November 2022, GB Women entered into the World Championships Qualifying Competition, a double header against Türkiye.

Following this competition, Paul Dempsey has decided to step down for personal reasons. We thank Paul for his hard work and commitment to the team through this difficult period, and wish him the best for his future.

The BHA will now look at how we best develop the whole women's pathway through to senior level to ensure it's shaped in the best possible way for stability and performance.
