Gary McCafferty has stepped down as joint Head Coach of the GB Under 17/U19 women’s teams for personal reasons.

McCafferty initially stepped into the GB U17 women’s role on an interim basis in July 2017 to take the team to the W17 European Championship, where they recorded their maiden win against Latvia.

He was subsequently appointed to the joint-Head Coach of the U18 Women’s team, together with Bill Baillie, in September 2017. This joint role was expanded to cover the U17 and U19 women’s programmes in 2018.

Bill Baillie will continue as Head Coach of the U17 and U19 programmes. Baillie commented “Over the last 18 months I have had the great pleasure of working alongside Gary and valued every minute. While I understand Gary's decision, I hope he will return to the game as he has so much to offer.

I would like to wish Gary and Lynn all the best for the future and I know they will be super parents.”

Paul Bray, British Handball Chairman commented “We are hugely grateful to Gary for his outstanding service these past two years. He demonstrated great skill and dedication and, together with Bill Baillie, they have done a great job to improve the U19 squad and establish the new U17 cohort. I wish him and his family the very best”
