GB senior men conclude successful Portugal trip

In what has been a busy week for the GB U18 and U20 men’s teams in Kosovo at the IHF Trophy – European Zone continental tournaments, the senior GB men’s team was also in action, in Portugal.

The team held a training camp over the weekend and played two friendly matches against Portuguese league sides, beating Aguas Santas 31:26 and Gondomar 25-18.

The GB team is preparing for their Men’s EHF EURO 2022 Qualification Phase 1 tournament, which will be held in Luxembourg from 11-13 January 2019. http://eurohandball.com/ech/men/2022/round/4/Qualification+Phase1

GB have been drawn in a group with Bulgaria, Ireland and hosts Luxembourg with the winners of the group qualifying through to the next phase of qualification for the final tournament which will be held in Hungary and Slovakia.

Commenting on the training camp GB Head Coach Ricardo Vasconcelos said:

“This was a very intense and rewarding weekend camp. We can take a lot of positives as well as many learning points it - the players worked very hard and I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them, both on and off court.”

Coach Vasconcelos went on to thank the teams Aguas Santas and Gondomar, hosts PROMOV Rebordosa and, in particular, Helder Carneiro and Micael Magalhães for their welcome and superb organisation.
