The British Handball Association (BHA) is looking for a dedicated and experienced Governance Expert to join our Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director
As we continue to develop the sport across Great Britain, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic future and maintaining excellence in our decision-making processes
The Role at a Glance
- Position: Non-Executive Director – Governance Expert
- Remuneration: Voluntary (unpaid)
- Location: Remote (with occasional in-person meetings)
- Term: Board appointment

What You’ll Do:
The postholder will lead on BHA governance matters, ensuring we align with the Code for Sports Governance and other regulatory requirements
Beyond the BHA, you will be a key collaborator across the Home Nations, providing guidance to England Handball and Scottish Handball to promote consistency and effective governance throughout the UK
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing the BHA governance framework and decision-making processes.
- Providing expert advice to the Board on regulatory and fiduciary duties
. - Contributing to strategic planning and organizational development.
- Acting as a bridge between multiple stakeholders to ensure strong governance across all levels of the sport

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an individual with a strong background in sports or non-profit governance. You should have a deep understanding of the UK sporting landscape, including the roles of National Governing Bodies and agencies like UK Sport, Sport England, and Sport Scotland
Desired Attributes:
- Integrity: High levels of independence and sound judgement.
- Insight: Knowledge of the Code for Sports Governance and its practical application.
- Communication: Strong advisory and influencing skills to support Boards through regulatory and funding pressures
